IFDA JANUARY 2019 NEWSLETTER (THE CREW OF IFDA)

Join us every Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. at University United Methodist Church, 6901 Washington Ave., University City (St. Louis).  Admission is $5.00 per person (free if under 18).  All IFDA events are co-sponsored by the National Folk Organization (NFO).

THE CREW OF IFDA:

IFDA Board:  Board Members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and sound financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.

IFDA Programming and Teaching Committee:  Folk dancing is a form of dance which originates as a cultural expression from people around the world at the level of the village.  Programing and Teaching Members, each week, select a list of dances from various countries that provides continuity and consistency from week to week to IFDA members.  Each week new dances may be taught from workshops or older dances may be reviewed/re-taught.

IFDA Members: Folk Dancers who come to Saturday Night Folk Dancing.  Without our IFDA members, folk dance would not exist.  They dance the dances, help out with events, potlucks and parties.  They bring snacks and coffee.  They help and guide new folk dancers.  They are friendly and are always there to lend a helping hand.  

ABOUT THE CREW OF IFDA:

 "Crew" is defined as "A group of people who work closely together."  And that's what we do.  We work together, dedicated to give you the finest and most enjoyable, friendly experiences in INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCING for each Saturday - including workshops, live dance music, potlucks, parties throughout the year.  Our experienced programmers and teachers are the finest in the country who bring us these wonderful dances with their expertise and teaching.  Our IFDA members are close-nit.  We dance hand-in-hand, shoulder-to-shoulder, arm-in-arm and heart-to-heart, always together.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME - JOIN THE CREW AND DANCE THESE WONDERFUL DANCES - TOGETHER.  ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS - COME AND DANCE WITH US!

Last Saturday, January 12th, in spite of all the snow, Zeke, came through with another outstanding evening of dancing and John taught a nice Greek Dance "Ikariotikos."  THANK YOU ZEKE and JOHN for another WONDERFUL EVENING of DANCING and TEACHING. 

For this upcoming Saturday, January 19th, Andy is on board as the evening's programmer and John will teach an Bulgarian dance "Koritsa."  It's going to be another  GOOD ONE with ANDY and JOHN - COME AND DANCE WITH US!

E-mail Gene Woodford at genew@accessus.net if you want your name listed here for the month you were born.  That way you'll be on everybody's mind when the monthly Birthday song and Birthday dirge are sung on a Saturday night.  Plus, you get one guaranteed dance request during your Birthday month.

OTHER THINGS

IFDA MUSIC LENDING POLICY:  In order to comply with applicable copyright laws, the IFDA music collection (all of the music owned by IFDA, both in physical and digital formats) will not be lent out to individuals or groups, except as necessary for teaching, performances or other educational purposes approved by IFDA.

IFDA VIDEO RECORDING POLICY:  Unauthorized video recording is not permitted at IFDA-sponsored events.

MONDAY NIGHT FOLK DANCE, 7-8:30 p.m., Olivette Community Center.  Admission is $3.00 per person.  New dancers are welcome.  Drop-ins are fine, come as often as you would like.  Contact Linda Eissenberg at eissenberg@sbcglobal.net or Mary Tokas at (314) 469-1793 or E-mail at marytokas@sbcglobal.net for questions or if you wish to be on their mailing list.  

MUSIC FROM THE HILLS.  If you are interested in listening to international folk music on the radio, John Uhlemann is hosting a program called "Music from the Hills," airing at 4-6 p.m., every Sunday on KDHX - 88.1 on the FM band.  He plays a mixture of songs and dance music from different countries.

IFDA FACEBOOK GROUP.  For those who have an Facebook account you are welcomed to join our IFDA Facebook Group at  https://www.facebook.com/groups/IFDASTL for all the latest chats, photos, news and events.

ESCRIPT.  If you wish to make a contribution to the International Folk Dance Association of University City (IFDA), you can go through the Schnuck's eScript program.  If you already have an eScript card and want to change the beneficiary to IFDA, the IFDA group number is 500826575.  Just call the number on the back of the card and give them the group number.  If you do not have a card, pick up one at Schnucks, have it activated, then call the number on the back and give them the group number.
