Miroslav Marcetic

January 15- 17, 2010
St. Louis, MO

Miroslav "Bata" Marcetic (pronounced "Mar-cheh-teech") has been dancing and teaching in Serbia and North America for over 30 years, and is the Artistic Director of the Akademija Srpske Narodne Igre (Academy of Serbian Folk Dancing) in Toronto, Canada.  He is well known for his ability to teach at a variety of skill levels.  His performing and recreational company has over 300 members.  You can see many pictures and videos of the group at www.marcetic.com.

Bata will be teaching authentic village dances, and as a special treat, about 20 of the members of hiscompany will perform on Friday and Saturday.  This is an unusual opportunity to learn from a Serbian group and teacher of this caliber.

Locations

Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church (Friday):  1910 Serbian Dr., St. Louis, Missouri 63104 (Serbian Dr. is a continuation of McNair Ave.). See Google Map or Yahoo! Map.  Parking is available in the church lot north of the church, or on the street.

University United Methodist Church (Saturday):  6901 Washington Ave., University City, Missouri 63130; on the northwest corner of Washington and Trinity south of the Lion Gates on Delmar — see Google Map or Yahoo! Map. (Note: Most non-main streets in the area are dead-end.)  Parking is available in the church lot and on Trinity, but please do not park on the residential part of Washington.  Walk by the playground in front of the church, and enter by the door at the inner corner of the L-shaped building.

  Serbian Dance Ensemble

Principia School (Sunday):  13201 Clayton Rd., Town and Country, Missouri; north side of Clayton Road about 1 mile east of Mason Road.  We will be in the Pre-School Gym.  The school has two entrances, and the one closest to the Pre-School is the east entrance which is a few hundred feet east of Tammany Lane (not the Y-entrance at Takara Drive).  See Google Map or Yahoo! Map.  (The address on the maps has been changed slightly from the official address in order to put the marker at the proper entrance.)  At the east entrance there will be a large Principia sign and a security station.  Simply let the guard know that you are there for the folk dance, or just continue in if the station is unoccupied.  Keep to the left when the road forks.  The first building on the left is the Pre-School; it is less than 1/2 mile from the entrance and is visible from the entrance.  There is parking in front of the building and in the main parking lots adjacent to the building.  You may park anywhere where there is space.  The main hallway turns left, and the gym is all the way down the main hallway at the very end (signs will be posted).  Directions will also be available at the Saturday sessions.

Other Information

Food:  Lunch on Saturday will feature soup, salads, and bread.  Dinner will be our usual variety of tasty pot-luck contributions.  Sunday lunch is basically on your own, but we may take up a collection and order pizza if enough are interested.  Contributions of fruits and sweets for snacks would be appreciated.

See our Registration Form for ordering workshop packages and Saturday lunch in advance.

To hear examples of the type of dance music that will be featured at this workshop, tune in to Music from the Hills on Sundays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on radio station KDHX, 88.1 FM in St. Louis, hosted by IFDA member John Uhlemann.  You can also listen online — see www.kdhx.org.

Shoes:  Hard-soled shoes (leather or synthetic) are recommended, as rubber tends to stick to the floor.
